Sleep Apnea

Overview

Dr. Kreitman is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and has developed significant expertise in the treatment of sleep apnea using oral appliances.

Sleep apnea is a serious medical disorder, affecting a patient’s breathing during sleep, resulting in increased health risks, including hypertension, heart disease, gastric disease, fatigue and narcolepsy.

The most common cause for sleep apnea is a blocked airway. The dental treatment to resolve this issue is to provide the patient with a custom made, adjustable oral device. This appliance gently repositions the lower jaw, opening up the airway in the back of the throat, and thereby reducing or eliminating “apneic events” during sleep.

Before fabricating an oral appliance, Dr. Kreitman consults with you and your medical doctor to better determine your best course of treatment. She will then perform a thorough exam to determine if an oral appliance is right for you.
