ZOOM!® Whitening
A brighter smile. In a single visit.
Professional in-office whitening with the patient-preferred ZOOM!® system — dramatic results in about an hour, supervised by a dentist who has been doing this for nearly three decades.
Why professional whitening works better
Drugstore whitening strips and over-the-counter gels use low concentrations of whitening agent, generic trays, and no supervision. They can help — a little, slowly, and often unevenly.
Professional whitening is different. The gels we use are dramatically more effective, the application is precise, sensitive areas are properly protected, and the whole process is supervised by clinicians who can adjust in real time to your comfort. The result: a visible, often dramatic change — in about an hour in the chair.
What ZOOM!® is
ZOOM!® is a professional whitening system — the most patient-requested in-office whitening brand in the United States. During a ZOOM!® session, we apply a specially formulated hydrogen-peroxide whitening gel to your teeth while protecting your gums and lips. A specialized light activates the gel, accelerating the whitening process. The treatment is applied in multiple short cycles, typically over about 60 minutes total chair time.
What ZOOM!® can treat
- Yellowing or dulling from age
- Staining from coffee, tea, red wine, and berries
- Tobacco staining
- Certain types of fluorosis (mild surface discoloration)
- General overall brightness — if you just want your smile a few shades whiter
Whitening works best on natural enamel. It doesn't lighten crowns, veneers, fillings, or bonding — these retain their original shade. If you have visible restorations, we'll discuss how to coordinate whitening with any future restorative work so everything ends up matching.
What to expect during your visit
- Prep & protection. We isolate your lips, cheeks, and gums, leaving only your teeth exposed. This is essential — the whitening gel is potent, and protecting soft tissue is what separates a professional result from an irritating one.
- Gel application. We apply ZOOM!® whitening gel evenly across your teeth.
- Light activation. The specialized ZOOM!® light is positioned and activated for about 15 minutes, accelerating the whitening action.
- Repeat. We typically perform 3–4 cycles back to back, re-applying fresh gel each time. Total chair time is about an hour.
- Final check. We rinse, apply a desensitizing treatment, and show you the before/after. Most patients see a several-shade improvement immediately.
Touch-up trays (optional)
For many patients, we also provide custom at-home whitening trays to maintain and fine-tune your result over time. These are different from store-bought trays — they're made from impressions of your own teeth for a precise fit, minimizing gum contact and wasted gel. A short touch-up every few months keeps your smile at its brightest.
Is it safe?
Professional whitening, performed in a dental office, is among the safest cosmetic procedures. The active ingredients have been extensively studied and used for decades. We customize every treatment to your sensitivity level and dental history, and we stop and re-evaluate at any point if you experience discomfort.
Frequently asked questions
Will my teeth be sensitive afterward?
Some patients experience mild tooth sensitivity for 24–48 hours after an in-office whitening session. It's usually manageable with a sensitive-formula toothpaste and generally resolves quickly. We take proactive steps to minimize sensitivity during and after treatment.
How long do the results last?
Results typically last 1–3 years, depending on your diet, habits, and oral hygiene. Coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco, and darkly pigmented foods will gradually reintroduce staining. Custom take-home trays and occasional touch-ups can easily maintain your results.
Will it make my smile look fake or too white?
No. We aim for a result that's noticeably brighter and natural-looking, not unnaturally white. Our goal is for you to look like you got great sleep and drank a lot of water — not like you put a porcelain bathtub in your mouth.
Who shouldn't get whitening?
Whitening isn't appropriate for people with untreated cavities or gum disease (we'd address those first), for pregnant or nursing patients (we recommend waiting), or for patients with intense tooth sensitivity that hasn't been evaluated. At consultation we'll make sure it's the right fit for you.
Is it covered by insurance?
Cosmetic whitening is typically not covered by dental insurance. We'll be transparent about the cost upfront so you can plan accordingly.
